What has your experience been like attending college as a first-generation student?
It feels really good to know I’m the first one in my family to graduate college, but it can sometimes come with a lot of pressure. Rutgers–Camden understands and helps a lot with that. I’m part of a first-generation organization that creates a community for students like me to encourage each other throughout our college experience.

How has your coursework brought you outside of the classroom?
As a Global Studies major, studying abroad in Ireland, Peru, and Spain was an impactful learning experience. I was able to gain new perspectives, immerse myself in new cultures, and learn how to communicate with other people. Taking this opportunity as a Rutgers student is a safer, more affordable way to see the world.

Did you receive any financial aid?
In my second year I was approved for Bridging the Gap and I don’t know what I’d do without it. I already work on top of taking 5-6 classes a semester, so this financial aid provides me with a sense of relief.
