About Spanish

Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the entire world with around 400 million people speaking it daily. Here at Rutgers University–Camden, we provide students with a world-class competence in the language , literature and cultures of the Spanish speaking world, which gives students a special preparedness for like in the increasingly globalized world.   With experts in literature and culture, students have the ability to focus on periods such as Renaissance and Baroque, Modernism, and Contemporary Literature and Culture, practicing such innovative critical approaches as Literature and the Pictorial Arts, Literature and the Environment and Narrating Urban Landscapes. If you're interested in linguistics and education, our world-renown faculty works at the intersection between first and second language acquisition, applied linguistics (language pedagogy) and bilingual language development. Their expertise include teacher training and the study of language learning from a sociocultural perspective, as well as Spanish/English bilinguals, bilingual education and Latinos in the US. One of the best experiences that a student can have at Rutgers–Camden is the opportunity to study abroad. The Spanish department offers two study abroad trips that immerse students in Spanish culture and give them the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned on a daily basis.
